On April 5th and 6th, the Treasure Coast Community Chamber Singers’ Chamber Singers will be performing Rutter’s Mass of The Children. Rutter composed this work, after the death of his son, to bring children and adults together. This concert will transport you through the emotions and moods of a complete day from waking to sleeping.  It expresses the “landmarks in a life” from turmoil to peace.

Director, Dr. Douglas Jewett, conducts the Orchestra and Chamber Chorus, bringing you sounds and harmonies that will cause your emotions to flow with the music. Performing with the Chamber Singers is the TCCS Middle School Chorus which is joined by students from Crystal Lake and Pinewood Elementary Schools.

Coloratura soprano, Kristina Costello and baritone, Mitchell Hutchings, DMA, are the guest soloists for this event. Ms. Costello is celebrated for her effortless high notes and her expressive storytelling. She has premiered several leading roles in contemporary operas in Pittsburg. She holds degrees from New England Conservatory of Music and Carnegie Mellon University and won the prestigious 2020 Michael Mayes Award at Utah Vocal Academy’s Death by Aria Competition. Ms. Costello is also an Elementary Music Teacher at Pinewood Elementary School and a private voice coach. Three of her Pinewood students will be singing in this concert. Dr. Hutchings, an Assistant Professor of Voice at Florida Atlantic University and renowned for his diverse repertoire, has performed with the Utah Festival Opera, Opera Orlando, Hartford Opera Theater, and Rochester Lyric Opera. These accomplished vocalists will bring the emotional tone of this performance to another level.

The Mass itself has five movements including: Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus and Benedictus, Agnus Dei and the Finale. To further enhance the performance, additional Rutter anthems include I Will Sing with the Spirit, Look to the Day, and The Lord is My Shepherd.

The April 5th Mass of the Children is presented at Stuart Congregational Church, 3110 SE Aster Ln., Stuart. The encore presentation on April 6th is at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 350 Northwest California Blvd., Port St Lucie. Both concert times are 3:00pm.
